Financial Literacy Month Kicks Off With Great Fanfare and Success

Financial Literacy Month raises the awareness of financial literacy and its critical importance in the lives of individuals, families and the economy at large.  In all corners of the United States, corporations, non-profits, academia, foundations and other organizations and entities are encouraging people of all ages to increase their knowledge of financial education principles and to become more empowered in making important decisions that impact the quality of their financial lives

The following are a few examples of events taking place during this month of April as we celebrate Financial Literacy Month…and please let us know of any financial literacy events that you are hosting (or know about) by entering your events here so they will be added to the FinancialCorps Financial Literacy Events Database: 

1.       Financial Literacy Summit 2014 | April 2, 2014

The Summit will focus on several financial literacy topics, including the unique financial literacy needs of the unbanked and underbanked.  This eighth annual conference, co-hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and Visa Inc., brings together senior international financial literacy experts from governments, the financial services industry, NGOs, the news media and academia to discuss potential solutions to improving financial literacy globally for the unbanked and underbanked.  More information.

2.       Financial Literacy Summit at University of Missouri-Kansas City | April 2, 2014

The event will be held at the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a live broadcast from The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, in partnership with VISA. The live webinar is open to K-12 teachers, pre-service teachers and graduate students, as well as financial literacy experts from academia, governments, the financial services industry and non-government organizations.  More information.

3.       Money Smart Week | April 5, 2014 — April 12, 2014

Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. The initiative is achieved with the help of businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, not-for-profits, government agencies and the media.   More information.

4.       Annual Conference on Financial Education | April 9, 2014 — April 10, 2014

The Annual Conference on Financial Education promotes the effective delivery of consumer financial products, services and education by hosting a national event for professionals providing these services. The Conference is a showcase for financial education success stories, offering attendees proven strategies, tips and techniques to achieve intended outcomes, funding goals and program sustainability.  More information.

5.       Financial Literacy Day on Capitol Hill 2014 | April 10, 2014

Financial Literacy Day on Capitol Hill was introduced in 2003 by the Council for Economic Education, Junior Achievement, and the Jump$tart Coalition, with the office of U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka serving as the original honorary host. Over the years, “Hill Day” as it’s come to be known, has evolved from a small gathering to a public event that attracts hundreds of participants. The location of the event alternates, each year, between an office location on the House of Representatives side and the Senate side of “the Hill.”  More information.

6.       Midwest Teacher Conference: Economics and Entrepreneurship | April 21, 2014

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is offering this workshop to help teachers gain a deeper knowledge of key economic and personal finance concepts and receive state curriculum-based lessons and resources tied to those concepts.  More information.

7.     National Education Finance Conference | April 23, 2014 — April 25, 2014

The Conference provides a venue for collaboration among legislators, postsecondary education, school district and state agency personnel, professional organizations, and researchers concerned with the importance of equity, adequacy, and efficiency concepts that affect state, local, and federal revenue generation, distribution, and expenditures.  More information.

8.       Children’s Savings Conference | April 29, 2014 — April 30, 2014

The Children’s Savings Conference will convene financial literacy professionals to discuss best practices relating to children’s saving accounts and other strategies and products for children’s savings and financial education.  More information.
