Miami Dolphins Star Jarvis Landry Spearheads Financial Literacy Program

When NFL stars talk, many young people listen. That’s why NFL players continue to speak with students across the nation about the importance of financial literacy. In one of the latest examples, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry visited Nova High School in Florida to kick off 4 Downs for Finance, a financial education initiative sponsored by BankUnited.

The Miami Dolphins has sponsored 4 Downs for Finance for the past five years, and the program continues to offer advice and information regarding money and savings for students ages 13-18. Specific topics include budgeting, bank fees, saving and goal setting.

To further incentivize the student participants, the program has a website that enables students to write and submit an essay relating to a financial literacy subject of their choice. Winning entries are announced during the NFL season and winners will receive a football autographed by Landry. In addition, one winner will receive a $1,000 prize, as well as the opportunity to meet Landry.

The continued involvement of NFL players in teaching financial literacy is widely expected to bode very well for the future growth of financial education among young people.
