The tech and financial literacy communities are buzzing over the announcement by Dell Entrepreneur-In-Residence Ingrid Vanderveldt that she is leaving Dell to pursue a venture in the global smartphone financial literacy space.

Vanderveldt has worked for roughly three years as Dell’s very first entrepreneur-in-residence and the announcement of her departure comes at a time of very high growth of the global financial literacy space. Financial education has climbed to the top of national economic and political agendas in both developed and developing countries. Moreover, there are immense business opportunities at the intersection of the financial literacy and financial inclusion industries, particularly as they relate to smartphones. For this reason, many industry observers see Vanderveldt’s move as very well timed.

During her tenure at Dell, Vanderveldt developed and launched the Innovators Credit Fund, a $100 million fund provided capital to qualified venture-backed businesses. A search currently is in process for Vanderveldt’s replacement.
