Financial Education Game in Brazil: 1,000 Downloads in Only 10 Days

In the latest move by software firms to roll out entertaining financial education games amid the fast-growing financial literacy movement, analytics and software provider FICO announced the launch of FICO Missao: Positivo in Brazil, with more than 1,000 downloads recorded in only the first ten days of the product’s availability.  In addition to the game’s ranking in the Apple App Store and on Google Play, FICO Missao: Positivo also is now ranked as one of Brazil’s top 500 educational games.

The game was designed to be an entertaining financial education offering not only for the thirty million smartphone users in Brazil, but also particularly for young adults for whom learning about money management topics is more effective when it is fun and engaging.  This younger cohort is especially attracted to the game’s competitive aspects, as users can earn status and coins upon successfully advancing to increasingly higher levels of financial knowledge.

The swift rate of downloads of FICO Missao: Positivo is reflective of the focus among Brazilians on becoming more empowered regarding their personal finance understanding and decision-making capabilities.   It also is representative of the adoption of financial education games in other countries as well.  Many contend that the growing interest in financial literacy combined with the state of technology throughout the world sets the stage for a likely flood of more financial education games to be introduced in the next twelve months.  And if the adoption of those games is anything like that of FICO Missao: Positivo, it will bode very well for helping to raise the level of financial literacy in all corners of the globe in the years to come.
