In its latest campaign to education consumers about their finances and retirement planning options, Guardian Life Insurance Company of America announced today its release of an innovative Web-based offering that includes information, tools and other elements to help with them understand and achieve their financial goals.

Guardian’s program, dubbed “My Retirement Walk,” is designed for consumers at many life stages, including marriage, starting a family, buying a home, graduating college, and moving through the middle and end of their careers.  Among the range of topics covered by the program are budgeting, saving, credit, debt and other aspects to financial planning and preparedness.

The development and launch of Web-based offerings like Guardian’s have picked up pace in recent months, coinciding with the release of eye-opening statistics, such as the fact that fewer than fifteen percent of Americans feel confident that they’ll have enough money to live securely in their retirement years.  These figures have emboldened financial education professionals to promulgate the importance and virtues of financial literacy.

Dr. Daniel Crosby was involved in the development of the Guardian website, which has influences of behavioral finance, as well as entertainment to spark the greatest interest and fun among consumers who use the site.  Guardian’s goal is to encourage individuals and families to focus on their retirement planning in a manner that does not feel overwhelming.  The company believes interest will spread not only among individuals and families directly, but also to financial professionals and plan sponsors and participants as well.

The Guardian initiative represents just the latest effort by a major insurance company to boost financial literacy among consumers.  This trend of insurance companies devoting significant resources to financial education is expected to continue in the months and years ahead.
