Higher One and Moneythink Partner to Boost Financial Literacy Among Students

The financial literacy industry was humming over the announcement by Higher One, a leading provider of financial information to more than 1,900 U.S. colleges and universities, and Moneythink, a nationally recognized movement of young people aiming to reinvigorate financial health throughout the nation, that they will partner to provide peer counseling and new technologies to address and enhance financial literacy.

Moneythink’s approach has focused on matching university students with inner city young people in a rigorous mentoring program that gets youth excited about and capable of making informed financial decisions. The Moneythink programs represent an effective complement to Higher One’s solutions, which have trailblazed in the area of education technology by reaching high schools with the company’s financial literacy products and solutions.

In the recently released financial literacy report, Money Matters on Campus, it was noted that high school students who received financial education in school exhibited higher scores than those who did not in connection with their knowledge of financial questions. Those results underscore the need for financial education in elementary schools and both Higher One and Moneythink believe their combined efforts would be the most impactful manner in which to enhance financial literacy among young people; specifically through a combination of Moneythink's peer counseling initiatives and Higher One’s mobile and other technologies targeting students.

The announcement also represents just the latest of many financial literacy initiatives being developed and launched by multiple partners that combine their products, services and tools that each is best positioned to deliver. The continued rise in partnerships among providers of financial education solutions should bode very well for the financial literacy space in the months ahead.
