Allianz Life Insurance Company announced its latest round of funding for financial education programs designed to assist individuals and families in becoming more empowered to manage their personal financial affairs. Nearly twenty organizations received the financial literacy awards based on a range of criteria established as part of the Allianz grant making process.

Junior Achievement and BestPrep each received $100,000, in addition to another $275,000 that was awarded, as part of a continuing alliance with Allianz that will run through 2016. Over 2,400 Allianz employees have served as financial education volunteers since the program began in 2010, engaging in a wide spectrum of initiatives, including JA in a Day, JA Finance Park, JA Biz Town, JA BIG Bowl, eMentors and the Financial Matters Initiative.

This year’s grant recipients include a longtime supporter of programs that aim to tackle elder financial abuse. Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota (LSS) will employ funds from the Allianz grant to develop a new financial literacy workshop that will be offered without a fee to senior citizens who live in independent living facilities. Such funding comes at a very important time in the financial education space, as the extent of financial abuse of elders is becoming more widely known.
