The financial literacy community is buzzing over the announcement by the Missouri Department of Higher Education that it has awarded $885,724 through its Default Prevention Grant Program to 34 institutions of higher education to promote financial education among their students.

As Missouri state officials have determined that significant efforts and programs in financial education have continued to keep student loan default rates lower than the national average, the financial support for these programs has been substantiated.  The Default Prevention Grant Program, which has been in existence for 13 years, facilitates the launch by colleges and universities of default prevention programs to enable students learn about money management and to assist them in living within their means.
