Global professional services giant and Big Four auditor PwC kicked its pioneering financial literacy initiative into high gear in October, as more than 400 employees dedicated nearly 20,000 hours to teach financial literacy skills to 4,000 elementary school students. PwC partnered with Playworks in implementing this program, which is just the latest of many elements of the company’s $160 million, multi-year commitment to financial education focused on financial skills development for students and innovating training for educators.

PwC ‘s latest financial literacy program was centered on ten elementary schools in California, where the company’s employees volunteered their time to implement the Earn Your Future curriculum to educate students on a broad range of key financial literacy topics, such as budgeting, savings, debt management, income, taxes, and the importance of retirement planning.

In just the last two years, PwC’s Earn Your Future program has been broadly implemented across the company’s global footprint, with over 27,000 employees donating 425,000 hours of time to financial education of young people.

The expansive initiative coincided with PwC’s annual Community Day, as the company’s selection of financial education as the primary focus of its philanthropic efforts underscores the major focus being afforded to financial literacy among some of the largest multinational companies in the world. As this continued support of financial education by global corporations gains greater visibility going forward, it is widely expected that the number of companies focused on financial literacy will increase substantially in the years to come.
