Financial education professionals are buzzing over news that PwC Charitable Foundation, the grant-making affiliate of PwC, the world's second largest professional services network and one of the Big Four auditors, awarded the MIND Research Institute $3.2 million in funds earmarked for the development of an innovative financial literacy curriculum.

The MIND Research Institute has become known widely for its creation and promulgation of a unique, non-language-based approach to teaching math designed to education young people not only in mathematics, but also more broadly in the areas of problem-solving, perseverance and overall financial education and aptitude.

The proceeds from PwC will be used by the MIND Research Institute to create a curriculum that will concentrate on such critical topics as saving, investing, credit, debt, home buying and overall money management. In addition, the MIND Institute will design and roll out game-based instructional software targeting students in grades six through eight.

PwC’s grant came on the heels of usage by 2,500 elementary schools throughout the United States of the MIND Institute’s Spacial-Temporal (ST Math) curriculum, which is gaining widespread recognition for its impact as measured by significantly raising math scores in schools that use it.

The PwC grant also is emblematic of the fast-growing support of digital and other multi-media programs and initiatives focused on improving financial education, which trend is widely expected to continue in the months and years ahead.
