Scotiabank and the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education Launch Financial Literacy Initiative for Young Entrepreneurs

Financial literacy enthusiasts are buzzing over the announcement by the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) that it is teaming up with Scotiabank to roll out its new financial education initiative dubbed “Entrepreneurship: The Spirit of Adventure.” The program, which is designed to leverage small business and financial literacy as the bedrocks of entrepreneurial achievement, features a broad range of videos for high schools and colleges, and feature well-known entrepreneurs sharing their stories of success.

Among the entrepreneurs whose profiles are featured are Ron Joyce of Tim Hortons, Guy Laliberté of Cirque du Soleil, and David Chilton of The Wealthy Barber.

There is a widespread belief among key stakeholders that the interest to be sparked by the engaging stories of the successful and well-known entrepreneurs will drive thousands of educators to use these videos and other tools with tens of thousands of students. If so, many financial education professionals believe that it will create a new level of entrepreneurship and help increase the level of financial literacy among participants.

This initiative is just one of the latest moves by Scotiabank to provide financial education and related information, resources and tools to assist individuals and families in making better informed financial decisions. Given the importance of sound financial literacy in entrepreneurial success, this partnership between Scotiabank and the CFEE is poised to serve as a model for other similar initiatives going forward.
