SunTrust Bank Continues Financial Literacy Focus

by | 08/12/13 | Commentary, Uncategorized

In its latest move to spark higher levels of financial literacy throughout the U.S., SunTrust Bank is partnering with the University of South Carolina Upstate to roll out a five-week financial education program from September 6th to October 4th.  Among the topics to be covered are personal finance, investing, retirement planning, insurance protection and managing liquidity.  The program is unique in that it not only addresses timely topics for the University’s students, but it also will be open to the general public, offering continuing education credits for personal development.

The partnership with the University of South Carolina Upstate represents one more unique SunTrust financial literacy initiative in the bank’s long history of support for financial education.  Other SunTrust initiatives have included the bank’s work with a broad range of local organizations, such as Girl’s Inc. and Goodwill, to offer classes and training that is tailored to the needs of program participants.  SunTrust also worked with local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs to facilitate the filing of taxes and help with tax anticipation loans on behalf of low income families.  The bank also has devoted thousands of hours and substantial resources to provide financial education information and materials in schools, businesses and a wide variety of community-based organizations.
