Wells Fargo and NFCC Launch National Financial Education Program for Military

by | 07/21/13 | Commentary

In one of the most comprehensive financial literacy initiatives to date for military members, veterans and their families, Wells Fargo teamed up with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) to teach financial education on military bases throughout the United States.  The program, called “Hands on Banking for Military includes ten individual lessons that range from banking basics to retirement planning and is structured to focus on the unique needs of military members during various stages of their career.

The vast scope of this initiative is underscored by the fact that NFCC is mobilizing its nearly 700 member agencies and more than 2,200 NFCC agency counselors to provide personalized budget planning and financial help to military members.  Moreover, under the program, military and veteran groups can arrange for targeted financial education classes and individual sessions by leveraging the NFCC network.

Wells Fargo’s Hands on Banking for Military program is only one component of the company’s larger initiative providing support for military members, veterans and their families.  Specifically, Wells Fargo also is helping active duty service members and veterans secure homeownership, assisting veterans in their transitions to civilian careers, and offering a broad range of financial education initiatives beyond the Hand on Banking for Military program.

The move by Wells Fargo to target military members and their families is consistent with the broader trend taking place in the financial literacy space, with many organizations and corporations increasingly focused on services for the military and veterans community.
