Wells Fargo and Telemundo Partner to Drive Financial Literacy for Hispanics

Financial literacy professionals are buzzing over news that media giant Telemundo and Wells Fargo have partnered to develop and roll out a multi-week media campaign focused on financial education for Hispanics. Dubbed “Conversemos de Tus Finanzas,” the program is aimed at enabling Hispanics to increase their financial knowledge and make better informed financial decisions.

The popular hosts of Telemundo’s “Un Nuevo Día” program, Rashel Diaz and Diego Schoening, will be featured in the campaign, which is comprised of informational vignettes and tailored content on a broad range of financial literacy topics, such as budgeting, saving, building credit and managing debt. One of the program elements that many contend will be an exciting feature for participants is the social media engagement and the affiliated website that will include 30-second videos appearing in the Telemundo.com finance section. Similarly, Wells Fargo also will provide information, tools and resources on the web that support the program.

This alliance with Telemundo represents just the latest move by Wells Fargo to make financial literacy resources more available to Latino consumers. Wells Fargo offers bilingual online tools, Spanish Text Banking, Spanish account statements, Spanish-language call centers, and Spanish speaking bankers who are resident in its branches throughout the U.S.

Many other financial services companies have similarly become more aggressive in connecting the Hispanic community with financial education resources during the last twelve to eighteen months. Financial literacy professionals widely believe that this move should bode very well for the prospects for greater financial literacy among Latinos in the months and years ahead.
