Wisconsin Announces $250,000 in Financial Literacy Grants

by | 02/07/14 | Commentary, Uncategorized

In a statewide effort to foster greater incorporation of financial education into K-12 curricula, the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) rolled out a grant program that will provide up to $250,000 to Wisconsin school districts.

DFI’s Office of Financial Literacy is focused on the promotion of financial education throughout Wisconsin, as it works with the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy to help decrease the rate of financial illiteracy in the state.  Educators who teach in K-12 schools are eligible to apply for the grants, with each award earmarked for up to $10,000 in funding.  Each school level (elementary, middle school and high school) may submit proposals for consideration.

Consistent with the current trend among states of using settlement funds for financial education, the $250,000 grant funding will be sourced from funds received by Wisconsin in settlements.
